The Pause #2: 🍫 A Seed of Light-how one small gesture can travel further than we know.
This week, I found myself reflecting on what it truly means to help.
As many of you know, I was born in Venezuela. Although I have lived in the United States for more than 30 years, and in many ways my mindset and the way I move through life have become thoroughly American, the truth is that your homeland never really leaves your heart.
When the land that first held you is struck by a powerful earthquake, the years and the distance disappear. Your heart stops for a moment, and all you can think is:
Is everyone safe? What can I do to help?
From that question, I began finding ways for Romanicos to support Venezuela—not only in the urgency of this moment, but in a way that could continue over time. One of those ideas was a Venezuelan-inspired chocolate collection, with profits donated to support the Venezuelan cause.
Then, this week, FedEx approached me with a beautiful idea. They wanted to join the initiative by creating smaller chocolate boxes with the same Venezuelan theme, to be shared with attendees at an important event.
Their gesture moved me deeply—not simply because of the boxes, but because of what their decision revealed:
One action can awaken another.
How many times do we feel called to do something for another person or for a cause, yet stop ourselves because we believe our contribution is too small?
We think no one will notice. We tell ourselves that we are not influential enough, wealthy enough, or powerful enough to make a meaningful difference.
But perhaps power is not measured by the size of the gesture.
Perhaps it lives in our willingness to begin.
Even the smallest action, when offered with love, can become a seed of light. It can be noticed, repeated, and multiplied. It may travel much farther than we will ever know—and sometimes, it may even change someone's life.
We are more connected than we remember.
So, for today's Pause, I invite you to ask yourself:
What small thing can I do today?
Perhaps it is saying, "I love you."
Telling someone, "You are beautiful."
Noticing how wonderful they look.
Sending a message to someone who has been on your mind.
Or simply offering a moment of kindness without waiting for a special occasion.
You may believe it is only a small gesture. But for someone else, it may become the moment that changes their entire day.
No gesture offered from the heart is ever truly small.
With love,
